3 Minute Read:
Are you tired of shaving, over the pain of waxing, and annoyed with the frustration of plucking? If so, you may need a more permanent solution to your unwanted body hair.
No one enjoys having to deal with their unwanted hair on a daily basis. It’s a tedious hassle that takes far too much of your precious time, especially when you’re rushing on your way to work—or, better yet, hitting the beach.
Laser hair removal is a great way to eliminate unwanted hair across the body, including in areas such as the underarms, legs, and bikini area.
Coastal Plastic Surgeons in San Diego offers laser hair removal/reduction using the cutting-edge Optimas Laser System by InMode®.
The first question many people ask when considering laser hair removal is, “How long will my results last?”
Unfortunately, there is no hard and fast answer to this question. Some patients find that they never grow hair again after a single treatment. Others may find that even after repeated treatments, their hair may start growing back—albeit slowly.
Fortunately, even if you experience the latter, you will find the benefits of this treatment far outweigh the negatives.
How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
Laser hair removal works by heating the hair follicles.
This heat passes through the hair, deep down into the follicle where the hair grows. Under ideal conditions, the follicle cells are destroyed, and no further hair can grow there. Under such circumstances, the effects of laser hair removal are permanent.
Even in cases where not all follicles are removed with laser hair removal treatments, they will still be damaged. This damage often prevents or slows growth for months or years, providing long-lasting smoothness without waxing or shaving.
Should hair follicles continue to grow after treatment, the hair that grows tends to be slower-growing, thinner, and lighter.
This makes new hair growth less of a hassle for most patients.
Often, multiple hair removal treatments are required to treat unwanted hair at all stages of hair growth.
Will My Hair Reduction Be Permanent After Laser Treatments?
While laser treatments last far longer than most other hair removal/reduction treatments, it is not always permanent.
So, the question remains, how long do the results of laser hair removal last? For most patients, a skilled technician can usually hit most of the follicles with enough laser energy to damage them.
This means that most patients will see at least six to 24 months of minimal to no hair growth in the treated area. And, hair that grows in the treated areas after that point is usually far less noticeable.
Some patients may even experience permanent results.
With periodic treatments (varying from every six months to every other year), patients can prevent significant hair regrowth from occurring.
This will allow you to maintain smooth, hair-free legs, underarms, and intimate areas at all times.
