Thigh Lift Surgery in San Diego, CA
A thigh lift is designed to remove excess skin and tissue from your inner and outer thighs, especially after significant weight loss. It improves the contours of your thighs by eliminating sagging skin, reshaping your legs, and leaving you with more toned and youthful-looking thighs.
What Is Thigh Lift Surgery?
A thigh lift can be performed on your inner (medial) or outer (bilateral) thighs to contour and smooth the area. Considerable weight loss, loss of skin elasticity due to age, and genetics often cause sagging skin and pockets of flab that affect the appearance of your thighs. Thigh lift surgery is an ideal way to eliminate loose skin, get rid of unsightly stretch marks, and restore a more defined contour to your legs.
What Are the Benefits of Thigh Lift Surgery?
Improved Appearance
A thigh lift removes excess skin and flab from both the inner and outer thighs, giving you smoother and shapelier legs.
Reduced Chafing and Discomfort
Excess skin on your thighs can cause painful chafing, making everyday activities like walking extremely uncomfortable. It can also cause chronic rashes and even sores or infections. A thigh lift eliminates redundant skin, improving mobility and comfort.
Increased Confidence
Sagging skin and excess flab on your thighs can make you reluctant to wear shorts or swimsuits, even after you’ve worked hard to lose weight. A thigh lift can smooth and tighten your thighs so you can enjoy showing off your new body contour.
Am I a Candidate for Thigh Lift Surgery?
Ideally, thigh lift candidates are people who:
- Have excess loose skin and flab on their inner or outer thighs
- Are at a stable, healthy weight and are in good overall health
- Are committed to maintaining the results of their thigh lift
- Are nonsmokers, or are willing to quit
- Have realistic expectations for their thigh lift results
When you come in for your consultation with Dr. Batra, he will perform an examination, go over your medical history, listen to your goals for your results, and determine if you’re a good candidate for a thigh lift.
What Are My Thigh Lift Options?
A thigh lift can be performed on both the inner and outer thighs, according to your needs and desired results. Besides addressing excess skin, you may also undergo liposuction to contour your legs further.
Inner Thigh Lift
A medial thigh lift, also known as an inner thigh lift, is an excellent option for patients with sagging skin and flab in the area between the groin and the inside of their knee. An inner thigh lift improves the appearance of the upper thighs, sculpts and tones the area, and helps eliminate painful chafing.
Outer Thigh Lift
Also called a bilateral thigh lift, an outer thigh lift targets extra skin and fat in that area, as well as around your buttocks and waist. The procedure removes loose skin, eliminating visible stretch marks and addressing unsightly dimpling and pockets of fat. An outer thigh lift leaves you with a smoother, more streamlined appearance from your waist to your knees.
How Is a Thigh Lift Performed?
A thigh lift (both inner and outer) is an outpatient procedure performed using general anesthesia. A medial thigh lift uses an incision that follows the natural crease of your upper thigh, extending from the lower groin to underneath your buttock. After making the incision, Dr. Batra removes excess fat, trims away loose skin, and reshapes the thigh tissue. He then pulls the skin taut and closes the incision with sutures.
A bilateral thigh lift incision is made in a line around the waist. Similar to a medial thigh lift, Dr. Batra will use liposuction to remove fat, trim away excess skin, and pull it tight for a slimmer contour. He completes the surgery by closing the incision with sutures.

Thigh Lift Surgery FAQ
How much does thigh lift surgery cost in San Diego?
The cost of thigh lift surgery varies according to several factors. Some patients wish to undergo both an inner and outer thigh lift, while others choose to add complementary cosmetic procedures like an arm lift or a tummy tuck to their thigh lift. Our body lift patients often incorporate the outer thigh lift as it helps to enhance their overall procedure results. When you come in for your consultation, Dr. Batra will create a customized treatment plan for you and provide you with an accurate cost estimate. Financing options are also available.
Will there be visible scars after thigh lift surgery?
The scar from an inner thigh lift is typically hidden in the crease under your buttock. The scar from an outer thigh lift may be more visible, as it is on your waist, but it is usually easily hidden by underwear or a swimsuit. Any scars from a thigh lift will eventually fade and can be treated with silicone scar strips, creams, or gels to speed up the process.
How long will the results of my thigh lift surgery last?
The results of your thigh lift surgery are long-lasting if you maintain a healthy, stable weight. Weight fluctuations can affect your results, as can the natural aging process.
Are there any risks associated with thigh lift surgery?
As with any type of surgery, there are potential risks and complications from a thigh lift, including:
- Asymmetry
- Bleeding
- Infection
- Poor wound healing
- Excess fluid accumulation (seroma)
- Changes in skin sensation
- Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
- Swelling
