Shaped Implants Also known as “gummy bear” implants
Welcome to Coastal Plastic Surgeons, with locations throughout San Diego and Riverside Counties. We are excited to announce the launch of our new website – with an even more extensive “Before and After” Gallery – illustrating the many cosmetic procedures our Board Certified plastics surgeons perform routinely.
Coastal Plastic Surgeons is focused on offering the most advanced plastic surgery procedures, including the recent FDA-approved breast augmentation and breast reconstructive surgery using Sientra’s Shaped Implants. These implants have popularly come to be known as “gummy bear” implants. The reason for this name comes about due to the type of gel used in the implant which prevents leakage. If the implant is cut in half the gel still doesn’t leak out.
Sientra shaped implants are silicone gel-filled and are implanted under the breast tissue or under the chest muscle. Shaped implants have a silicone outer shell filled with silicone gel and come in many different sizes. Using shaped implants allows Coastal Plastic Surgeons to provide a more desirable outcome than San Diego plastic surgeons not yet using shaped implants. Other advantages include a more natural shape to the breast, less risk of hard scar tissue developing, and less rippling especially when they are placed under thin skin with little breast tissue.

In addition to breast augmentations, shaped implants can be used for breast reconstruction to replace breast tissue removed as a result of cancer or trauma. We are currently in the process of updating a number of our breast cancer patients to this type of implant.
Please contact our offices for a complimentary consultation, at which time, you will meet with one of our Board-Certified plastic surgeons and learn what procedure is suitable for you.
